Po Boy Factory, fried food heaven..

This week I am sandwich hungry. I treat myself once in a blue moon to Po Boy Factory because I usually feel guilty after I eat way too much of the wrong stuff. But oh does it feel good going down. It’s a New Orleans themed restaurant with that mardi gras type decoration and spirit. The food is seafood based but there is burgers and chicken. I seemly love the grilled mahi mahi sandwich. It’s a tasty fish filet with a sauce I have put on the side because I can’t refuse the hot damn sauce. I rarely eat fries but I have to have them when I eat here just for a dipper in that sauce. As far as dates, this is a great place for a ice breaker because of the party like atmosphere, no romance insinuated. So this would be a great first date place or just to meet up with friends. There is a lot of fried foods on the menu if you have no problem with that and very little salads. That’s why I rarely go because of the limited menu. But go try out the party and forgive yourself for eating way too much the next day.

Stix in Birmingham is the ultimate road trip date!!

If you are up for a road for some good sushi or just traveling to Birmingham area, check up Stix. Its located inside the Galleria mall or off of the Walker Chapel exit. The lunch prices are the best for today's economy. The atmosphere is like most Japanese restaurants but seems to be more geared to couples with high back seats for privacy and a lot of space between each one. As a starter, the edamane is awesome and gives you a great conversation piece. Also, the salads are very fresh and enjoyable. I love the sushi here and have never been disappointed with any I have ordered. My date has ordered several items off the menu but the sesame chicken was a favorite. Overall, if they had one of these in Huntsville, I would be in trouble. The food is great and the privacy allows for great couple time. Journey down to Stix on day soon for a experience you can't find in town.

Hays Nature Preserve is a piece of heaven...

Well as I grapple with my own weight, I thought I'd do a non-entertainment for the belly this week. I absolutely love Hays Nature Preserve in Owens Cross Roads. Some of you know it as Hampton Cove but I choose to call it by its given name. The Preserve offers walking trails, bike trails, fishing, kayaking, hiking, and general lounging by the river. I ride my bike on the trails about three plus times a week. It helps motive me into riding more because the scenery after every corner offers something different. I have bought a significant other there in the past and it is a great date spot for intimate talks as you walk. I've also taken a lot of memorable photos there with my fuji and they always turn into wall hanging pieces. So when you are in need for nature, let the Preserve cure what ills you and put a smile on your soul. Directions can be found by looking up Hays Nature Preserve. Happy Hiking!!!

Sun Cafe will brighten your day!!!

Sun Café is a welcome change from the long line of chain restaurants available on University Drive. The menu is very eclectic and has a fusion of all Asian cultures. There’s Thai, Chinese, and some Japanese dishes to sample. For starters, we would get the sesame salads and quickly discovered that they were big enough to share. I enjoy the sushi every time I go and my date always got the sesame chicken or Pad Thai chicken. The atmosphere is the same as every other restaurant with the décor, no surprises there. This is a great lunch place or early dinner on a budget. If you get there before 4 p.m., you get the lunch prices. Plus as far as my date was concerned, there were enough leftovers for another meal. Our experiences at this restaurant have always been short and sweet just like this week’s blog!!!

Great music from great local artist...

Well, this week I am blogging on a great musician we have in our mists here in Huntsvegas and should really promote her will all we have. Her name is Marge Loveday and she is a awesome singer, composer, and musician. She totally rocks her own original material and can sing any artist's song as well. I recently caught up with her during PRIDE week at Partner's bar and grill and she did not disappoint. I love her soulful voice and really enjoy her interaction with the crowd. That comes from years of knowing her audience and her genuine ability to draw in everyone in the crowd to make them feel like she is singing to you alone. My favorite song she can bellow with Pink is Dear Mr. President. I have to give her a huge applause when I get to hear that one. Its a experience everyone needs to try out with a date or without, she will not disappoint you. You can check the weekly Go paper in the Huntsville Times on Thursday to see where she is playing the next week or join her facebook, Marge Fans to have a quick reference anytime you want it. So everyone out there that enjoys hearing good music, check Marge out if you haven't already. If you know about her, go out and support her with every friend you have!!!

Thai Garden is the real thing!!!!

Being the oldest Thai place in town should tell you that Thai Garden is the best in town. I love Thai and this is the only Thai I want when I am in the mood. Big plus, when you carry a date, you have to share the rice. So there is always room for added conversation over the rice bowl. I almost always get the sweet and sour catfish. It is too die for. I love to put the hot pepper sauce on my plate to counter the sweet and sour. Even with my big appetite, I always have enough late for another meal. My date usually gets the Pad Thai with chicken. I can say I have tried the Pad Thai with tofu and it's awesome as well. There's no flash in this restaurant, just great food. I have had some great conversations here and love the staff. They are always friendly and very helpful with the leftovers. Great date place for anyone!!! Did I mention I love this place? Well ok, I love Thai Garden!!!

let me tell you about my favorite date spot...

My all time favorite spot for a great date in Huntsville has to be Bridge Street Town Centre. Its right off Research park and has a lot to offer for a first date or the twentieth date. I know because I have been there for many, even a special occasion or two. So, for the newbies let me say this is not a typical mall, its all outdoors and very scenic. You can walk around to break the ice as you look into shops to gain knowledge of each others tastes. There are a lot of places to eat but for this blog, I am sticking to the Scene Lounge at the Monaco. It has two things going for it from the start, great food and a movie theater to boot. I love the sushi at the Scene and try to have it every time I go. The atmosphere is great in that you have to sit cross to your date because its always crowded. So, make sure you carry someone you want to be close to all night because its a dinner and movie combo. My favorite date had a variety of choices from the menu on our many dates there, most often she choose a chicken ceasar salad or chicken club sandwich. She even indulged sometimes and had sushi with me. I've never had a bad meal there, I've had some mix up with the checks at the end of the meal but never any issues that couldn't be resolved. I truly love this place as a date destination and will return many times in the future with my date. Remember, always pick someone you want to spend all night with to go here because it is a dinner and movie combo date and if you are like we are, there's always dessert at the Chocolate Crocodile with a little slow walking, hand holding after the movie. Perfect evening have come out of this every time for me. We even stayed overnight one time at the Westin for a special occasion, so it maybe a all nighter for you like it was for me. Hope you enjoy and always remember, this are placed I don't mind showing my girl affection at, that's why I recommend it for Dating Nights for Dykes!!!
